Breaking recent tour
traditions Singleton put themselves into bat on another very hot day. We
were struggling for 11 fit players as like last year Jamie got some
mystery bug which laid him low for much of the game.( Singletonitus I
think !!!).A big thanks to Richard Stemp for stepping in and helping us
out. Anyway back to the game as Richard Stemp and skipper Rendy opened
the bowling for Pilgrims, Singleton got off too a slow start. A dropped
Catch by Stempy square of the wicket ( which him a fine as we all agreed
that it was an easier chance than the one he dismissed Clive the day
before) let Singleton temporarily off the hook Stempy finally made a
breakthrough and had S.Doel caught behind for 7 with the score on 15-1.
From then on the Pilgrims bowlers toiled in the hot sun and with a
further catch by Shaun Urqhart and a stumping from replacement wicky
Clive Singleton were restricted to 188 all out. Jocky 3-22, Nick 2-34
and Paul H 2-17. A special mention to Robin ( 6 over's 0-49)who with
wife Sue comes down from Sheffield each year just for the Tour.
Paul H and Geoff B opened
the batting for the Pilgrims and pushed the score along to 26 before
Geoff (11) was the first Singleton victim. Into bat came Rendy who
unfortunately for him did not trouble the scores and was out for a duck
with the score on 34-2.This brought Clive to the crease and a
partnership with Paul H of 82. Paul (54) was out with the score on 116-3
even though they had escaped a terrible mix up earlier on when both
batsmen collided in mid wicket and luckily for them neither being run
out which also earned both players a fine. Three quick wickets fell and
Pilgrims were soon 126-6, then 132-7. It was at this time with only 7
over's left and 57 still needed to win that we would play out the draw
which we succeeded in doing without further loss and finish on 141-7.
Well done to Shaun Damen for his dogged defensive work
