Our next match was against Lavant and like at Ebernoe we batted first. Jamie became the first Pilgrim player on tour to get the dreaded golden duck as he was dismissed with the first ball of the game. Nick and Shaun U put on 33 for the next wicket before Shaun (13) fell to a catch behind. Se Damen (1) then Clive with the second golden duck of the tour followed shortly and we were in trouble at 34-4. Nick (33) was next out with the score on 61-5 which for him was also followed by a fine for blaming his wicket on some old codger who kept walking behind the bowlers arm. This brought to the crease Paul H and Geoff B with the Pilgrims badly needing some sort of partnership. Paul and Geoff obliged and put on 71 for the 6th wicket before Geoff was stumped with the score now 134-6.Paul H and Rendy pushed the score along before Paul (72) was run out. Rendy soon was out for 13 and the final score was 165-8 with Dave Sandham who had raced up the motorway to play still there at 1 no. Lavant came out to bat unbeknown to them that one of Pilgrims long standing records was going to be equaled. Lavant's first wicket fell at 16 and by the time they were 88-7 Jamie Gawler had bagged 6 catches to equal the record of Bryn Sharp set back in 1987. By this time Jocky had taken 5-28. It was left at the end for Jamie to clear up the tail enders with 3-8 and go somewhat into helping him erase the golden duck memory. Lavant were bowled out for 114 and Pilgrims were still unbeaten. |
