A remarkable correct guess to win the toss and we are to bat first !
Opening for the Pilgrims were Sam Birt and Craig Dennett, who put on 39 when we lost Sam , last weeks centurion , for just 13. Trev Warren joined Craig but unfortunately pulled a hamstring whilst running for a single and took no further part in the game (that gives us another player lost from our depleted small squad!)
Craig went on to score 62 before being caught. Of the 178 we scored with the loss of 6 wkts only Graham Twigg (26) was the only other significant score. Shot of the day though has to go to Jack Baveridge with his reverse sweep for a couple !
With the sun now brightly shining Burley batted , starting slowly and getting to 44 -2 after 14 overs. H. Rendell and S.Gnad beating the bat on numerous occasions , Harry taking the first wicket. With A.Moorman(54) joining A.Frost (53) in the middle ,these two starting to attack and score quickly. In a slightly desperate move Craig was brought on to bowl as we were down a bowler with the loss of Trevor. Craig took the wickets of both of the above Then with a cameo quickfire 26 from C.Clamp brought Burley to 165-5 needing 14 to win from 4 overs. Sam then bowled a 2 wicket maiden followed by the next over going for 10. Paul Rendell then took their 8th wicket whilst conceding only 2 runs from the 34th over. 2 to win from the last over . Craig got the dangerous Clamp caught and managed to concede just 1 run which meant the result was a tie. Great day for Craig with the bat and ball ! Thanks to Alfie Tucker for fielding in the injured Trevor's place.
